It's been a while since I've done one of these. I haven't needed to push my desktop at my new job hard enough to really find the problems, but:
According to my desktop, I have four icons visible - Trash, a shortcut to My Computer, a wizard for the wireless adapter (I'm not actually plugged into the wall, there weren't enough sockets spare) and a shortcut to my folder on the server. According to My Computer, however, the Desktop should have eight icons, with the addition of the original My computer, My Documents, My network Places and Internet Explorer.
Excuse me, but where the fuck are the missing four?
